I’m currently doing angel investing and advising startups in the enterprise space. I was the CTO of ThousandEyes, a company I started with Mohit Lad that became the leader in Digital Experience Monitoring employing more than 1,000 employees across 10 offices worldwide. The company was acquired by Cisco in 2020.

Prior to ThousandEyes, I was doing my  PhD in computer science at UCLA, my thesis was about understanding the Internet structure at a macro level. I published more than 20 papers in conferences such as SIGCOMM and IMC, and created one of the first Internet routing hijack systems called Cyclops. Prior to UCLA, I was doing a degree in Electrical Engineering from FEUP in Portugal.

Besides work, most of my passions are related to exploration and nature, and include wildlife photography, flamenco guitar, kitesurfing, skiing, tennis and aviation.

Angel Investing and Advising

My angel investments are focused on startups in the enterprise space, cyber security,  infrastructure and systems. I usually invest in startups with a strong differentiated technology foundation, and have a sweet spot for projects with academic roots.

There are different ways I get involved as an advisor, but typically centered around:

  • Organizational design and scaling of Product/Engineering teams

  • Recruiting and team building

  • Product strategy and GTM

  • Fundraising

Causes and Philanthropy

I’m focused on the following areas worldwide:

  • Climate change

  • Wildlife conservation

  • Child education

Also interested in local investments and causes in Brazil and Portugal.
